Getting Microsoft Office back after a restore to factory settings
I have an old dell laptop (inspiron 6000). I just restored the computer back to factory settings and have to have the product key for Microsoft Office 2003. Somewhere in the last four years I lost the disc and sleeve with that information on it. The programs are installed on the machine but I just lost the key. Is there a way I can use other information about the computer (XP product code or service code or something like that?) to use Office? I paid for the software and its not even the most current stuff. I assume lots of people have had this problem but got lost trying to find a similar thread. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You are out of luck. Dell will not replace the Office CD and if you had the CD and not the Product Key they can't give you that either. You have two options, buy a new copy of Office or download and use the free (but they take donations) Open Office suite of programs that are compatible to Office. www.openoffice.org The only thing, Open Office does not have an e-mail program so you will have to use the Outlook Express or download some other e-mail program such as Thunderbird.
This probably should be a FAQ as it comes up a lot.
