GPS FOR MICROSOFT STREETS AND TRIPS 2006 DOES NOT INSTALL

I have a new Dell E1705 and the GPS for Microsoft Streets and Trips 2006 does not work at all. After I installed the software I hooked up the GPS and a message that usually pops up when it finds a new hardware does not show up! I called Microsoft Tech Support and they told me to go to www.pharosgps.com to update a usb driver for it and I did and it still didn't recognize the usb. I restarted my computer numerous times. I went on the device manager to see if my usb connections were working and they are. I know my usb connections are fine because I've tested them already. Is there something I am missing?
