gx270 will not let xp install
The unit has nt on it, so I was going to do a fresh install of xp and I get the blue screen of death every time? Used a program called trouble shooter to check the hardware and everything was fine according to it. Any ideas or thought would be helpful.

The XP web site will tell you why this is happening. I think it is because you are using an upgrade cd for the Home edition. NT doesn't qualify for the upgrade. http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/home/howtobuy/upgrading/matrix.asp You need the XP Pro upgrade or a full version of XP Home.

http://www.windowsreinstall.com/
http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.html (Delete existing partition at step 10b for Clean Install)
http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/windowsxp_sg_clean.asp
Clean Install deletes existing partition (like FDISK) & Formats HD during Install of Windows XP from XP CD.
Set BIOS to use CD-ROM as 1st boot device usually by pressing F2 during boot (startup).
Re-start Computer & when message "Press any key to boot from CD" shows do it & let subsequent messages "Press any key...." time out to Windows setup.

Not sure what do mean by "never get to .....h.d..." ?
Does h.d. mean Hard Drive. ?

I see , if you have any external devices connected remove them & try new Clean Install.
Its that fails you could try re-installing NT.
And if similar to XP set System Properties , Advanced tab , Startup & Recovery`, Settings & remove tick from "Auto...restart" , this should allow you to read Blue Screen message if any.
For XP , don't know if applies to NT, press Windows+Break(pause) keys together to open "System Properties".

Edit:
Do you have the latest BIOS as some Computers don't work with XP if BIOS isn't 1st Updated.
I see yours is;
File Date: 11/12/2003
Optiplex GX270 A03 System BIOS.
If you don't have this BIOS you will probably have to re-install NT.
