Having problem in installing windows 8 on my Inspiron 17R SE(BCD\BOOT error).
Hi,
Have anyone installed windows 8 on 7720 SE?
I was trying to install windows 8 (downloaded from msdn subscriber downloads) using an external HDD. I could boot from the external HDD.
But the main problem i faced is at boot time (from external hdd) windows cannot find my primary hdd driver. so the situation is:
disk 0: my externad hdd
as aresult c drive is associated with this drive.
now when i manually load the HDD driver it is added as disk 1. as i want to install windows 8 on my primary hdd i am selecting disk 1(which is not the C: drive as well.
After windows copied all required files it restarts. After the restart windows couldn't load and BOOT\BCD error 0xc00000f is shown.
my question is: Is the HDD driver for N7720 SE derfault HDD is loaded in windows 8?
Can anyone help me to resolve this issue???
Thanks in advance.

Hi Anup1987,
The Windows 8 operating system is still not deployed and the current version of windows 8 is still in the beta phase.
For now, the best thing to do will be to wait for the Windows 8 deployment and then get the relevant drivers you need.
Please revert back for any questions.

Two Comments
1. To DELL-Ravi Ch Windows 8 from MSDN as Anup1987 stated, is NOT beta!!
2. To Anup1987, are you sure that booting from an external hard drive is possible? Have you tried to change the default boot order CD/DVD first external drive second?

1. Although the RTM is available, not all drivers are available yet from manufacturers (spare me the bit about not needing drivers :)).
2. Windows has never allowed installation to removeable media, and I have not heard anything regarding a change in Windows 8.

Hi msgale,
You have stated correctly. The windows 8 from MSDN is not a beta one!!! Its their enterprise edition!!!
Now regarding booting from external HDD. Its possible to boot from an external HDD. I have done that. No need to change the default booting priority. Just press F12(which brings up the boot selection) when the machine boots. Then select your boot device. Please make sure your that your external HDD is configured as bootable. For this follow the following simple steps:
format your ext HDD in NTFS.
Set the HDD partirion as Active partition form windows disk management.
Now copy all the content of your Windows 8 DVD/ISO to the active partition.
You are well set to boot from your newly configured ext HDD.
Try this and post back. :)

My bad ... easy mistake, as lots of people assume that would be a clever way to "dual-boot".
