Help Needed- Expert Required

Question

Ive recently encountered many problems with my Dimension 2300 and it has been recomended i delete and reformat my entire Xp operating system (if that makes any sense)   I would be extreamly grateful if anyone knew how to do this or could refer to a website with step by step instructions.   Please ask if you need anymore information/details.   Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help, unfortunatly by dimension was bought before that date but i will try doing it the 'hard' way and report back! If anyone has anyother ideas i would be very grateful. Thanks

How new is your D2300? If purchased after July 2004, it should have the PC Restore option. Access this option by restarting the machine and pressing CTRL-F11 at the Dell bios splash screen that appears when the computer first starts. Follow the on screen instructions, but remember that this option erases all existing data on the hard drive. If there is anything you wish to save you should save it to removable media before you begin.

If your computer is older than this, you will have to do it the hard way using the Windows reinstallation CD. For a step by step procedure, begin here:

This is an interactive web page, so I recommend you step through it first and print the steps that you will be using before you begin. Regarding drivers, you can use the Dell Utilities and Drivers disk if you have it and update from the web page later. If you don't have this disk, you should go here

and download and save the drivers you need to a CD for use after you have completed the installation of Win XP. Don't forget the chipset drivers as they need to be loaded first.

The installation procedure will also suggest a way you might be able to repair your present installation of Windows. For this to work the version of Windows on your reinstallation CD must be the same as the one on your computer. If your installation CD is Win XP but you have updated your computer to Win XP with Service Pack 2, you will not be able to do this.

Thanks for that Mary, as i said though my dimension was bought before that date so that artical isnt relevant, any ideas for a system bought before July 2004 but it is XP (home edition).

I have looked at the information before i dive into it does everybody thats offered advice fully understand the critera, im not updating i need do to this because my software is plauged with viruses.
