I just installed Windows XP onto my Inspiron 1100 and the screen resolution and colors are messed up. How do I fix this?

If you can't modify the resolution and color depth on the Settings tab of Display Properties, you probably haven't installed the drivers for your system. See this. The chipset drivers should go first, after which the order is not important.
