HOOKS
I recently installed Norton System,s Works 2004 and Norton Personal Firewall. In spite of removing and reistalling both I still have missing applications and In NSW none of the utilities work. When I try to run lets say Windows Disc Doctor I get the following message.
"Norton Disc Doctor is unable to identify the version of this operating system due to another application hooking and modifying the WIN32 functions" The same message appears when I try to open any of the other utilities. As for Nportoon Personal Firewall I am lacking the Spam folder in the e-mail list and do not find the button that should be on my e-mail task bar that would allow me to classify ajn incoming e-main as spam or declare it to be nopn-spam. Herlp please --I feel quite naked.

It sounds like you may have had an older version of systemworks and/or similar utility prior to installing this newer version. You may not have removed it entirely.
If it is systemworks, try here for manual removal instructions
