Hosts File

Please discuss

C - Windows - Hosts

What is this file?

What program does it open with?

My file says 1KB Sam

I was just reading a post at microsoft and the person was told to open this file and delete everything except the top line. I believe this had to do with some web sites who placed info in that file.

Sallie,

Moe_Howard's 4 posts all contain a hypertext link to a book that is located at Amazon.com. Here is the same link. You will need to copy it and then paste it into your address bar.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0672312247/qid=1077831794/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_1/002-1218422-2632050?v=glance&s=books

I have no idea why you can not see Moe_Howard's hypertext link.

The book title is: Paul Mcfedries' Windows 98 Unleashed, Professional Reference Edition. And this is what an Editorial Review has to say:

"A big book with pretty much all the answers, Windows 98 Unleashed: Professional Reference Edition ranks with the best of the comprehensive Windows 98 books. You'll find that this book's combination of step-by-step guides and deep explanations makes it both practical and enjoyable.

Covering every user-level Windows 98 topic, the book guides you through installation, use, modification, and maintenance of the operating system. If you know the basics of getting around in Windows (clicking, manipulating windows, and so on), this hardback book represents a fine choice for your computing library."

I believe that Moe_Howard has given you an excellent lead into answers for all 4 of your questions.

Gwynn Brooks,

Sallie's problem is explained here.

Hello Denny Denham,

Thank you. I was unaware of the complete significance of the "ignore HTML" checkbox in User Preferences. I now understand why Sallie was unable to see Moe_Howard's hyperlink.

Gwynn
