how do I restore a word document?
I have lost an unsaved word document - is there any way that I can restore it?

If you have Word set to autosave a document at specific intervals you can recover from that copy. If you deleted the document you can recover it from the Recycle Bin. If you merely closed the document without saving it, it is lost.

One hope for you.
If you closed the document and chose not to save it - it's gone since all "temp" files will be cleaned.
If the document is closed because crash or similar situation, you may have a chance.
Use "search" of your OS and try to find "tmp" files, you may find a lot but you may first focus those "tmp" files in your user's "document and settings" folders or Windows' "Temp" folder, If you are lucky, you may find one that is your unsaved word document - try to open those ".tmp" files with date and time marked close to your crash time.
Use notepad to open tmp files to look it, and if it is the file, use Word to open it again, Good luck
