how to install windows 7 on Dell n4050
Hello everyone!
I have dell n4050 with linux system ( Ubuntu 10.10) ......... but i want to change this to windows 7........... but the problem is that I could not find satisfactory website on internet to install windows 7 on dell n 4050 . Some websites say
- Go to Aptio Bios Setup by Pressing F2
- In Bios Setup Move to Advanced.
- Then move to the “SATA OPERATION “
- Change ACHI to ATA. In “SATA OPERATION“
- Then you will see a Warning select Yes.
- Then click on Exit and select “save changes and Reset”
some say
do not try above method and simply insert the cd/dvd and install windows 7 on dell n 4050. I'm very much confused now :( should i need to change ACHI to ATA or should i leave this? please help me.

Don't change the SATA settings, leave it as AHCI.
Follow my wiki A Clean Install of Windows 7 for the installation of Windows 7.
Windows 7 should run fine on the AHCI setting. In a few cases people will need to load SATA drivers during the installation (step 6 of my wiki). I have never had to load them during a Windows 7 install but some people have depending on their install media. Using media with Service Pack 1 included will lower the chance of needing them.
R302547 has the preinstallation SATA drivers in it, you can prepare them as in step 6 of my wiki, just in case. You should run the setup of the program after windows is installed however.

You can only get Enterprise using a Volume License account with Microsoft. Ultimate is the equivalent for regular users.

You should save them to a USB stick or External hard drive that way you won't format them.
You shouldn't have a disc with Enterprise and Retail Editions together. If you have a genuine product key for Windows 7 Home Premium use this .iso here. You might have a COA sticker attached to the base of the system or under the battery.
• Windows 7 Home Premium (x64) - X17-58997
It is possible to delete the ei.cfg file of the .iso to obtain the Professional and Ultimate version. This shouldn't give the Enterprise version however. You should get a screen like this asking you what version you want to install.

Forget the part about the Belarc Advisor, you have no product keys on UBUNTU and even if did work it wouldn't give you any detailed information.
You will have to purchase a license of Windows 7.

should i need to download all the drivers before installing windows 7 ? if yes , then where would i store them? in which place? i have only one partition in my hard drive and if i go for clean installation of windows 7 then obviously i have to format that hard disk , then the drivers will not affected ? how it can be possible ? it is too confusing ....... another thing I have Windows 7 (activated version) with Enterprise, starter, professional, ultimate, home basic , home premium .. all in one DVD ... How do I know if I am installing Home premium or some other version of Windows 7?

I don't have a product key (COA stcker) on the base nor under the battery ... neither i can run 'Belarc Advisor' on my system ... what should i do now? I have a feeling I won't even be able to install windows 7 ever :(
