How to Remove Vista and Install XP ?

Question

I have a new Dell Inspirion 1501 laptop due in 2 days.  I want to immediately remove Vista as soon as I get it and use the disks from my old laptop to install XP.  I feel if I do it first, before using the computer is will be much easier.  How do I do it?   I am removing Vista because speed is everything to me and I don't want to be bogged down by Vista with its massive memory and storage requirements and its frequent crashing and bugs that are yet to be worked out.   Any help on how to remove it will be appreciated.

Send it back and get it with XP preinstalled it does come with the option of XP !

Hi When you get it use the Vista DVD to remove the partition that has the C:\OS and the D:\Recovery partition also then just reboot with the XP CD in the drive and it should install just fine after you build a new XP partition for it ! If that does not work post back then ! Good luck with XP ! See Yea

That is not an option.  I bought a reconditioned one with Vista on it. I feel if I remove vista first, before I put anything on the HD it should be very easy to remove it and intstall XP.  It seems once you put things on the HD it is extraordinarily difficult to do based on the numerous earlier threads on people trying to switch while saving material on the HD.  Help anyone?

I am going to need a little more detail than that.  I have no idea on how to remove partitions and rebuild partitions.  Will I need XP drivers also or are they all on my XP disk from my old computer?

More Stable?  Hardly.  As Stable?  Possibly   More of a resource hog...........no questions asked.  Not even close.  Vista will consume approximately 50% more RAM on the same machine as does XP.

i wouldn't be so hasty in getting rid of vista.

the "problems" that people claim vista is causing are greatly exaggerated and it is anything but slow. as long as the computer you're getting has a good enough video card and enough ram, you will not see any difference in speed compared to XP. and the majority of the "problems" stem from people not doing their research beforehand.

speaking as someone who has had the new OS on his system for months now with ZERO problems (even when i ran a beta copy to see if i liked the OS), try it first before you pass judgement. it is a better, more stable OS than XP to begin with.

and unless you have a retail copy of XP and not an OEM version, you won't be able to install it on your new laptop anyway....

in my experience it has been more stable than XP. if you show me physical proof that it isn't then maybe i'll believe you.

again, if you have more than enough ram and a good video card, you will not see any of the so-called "resource hogging". a good CPU doesn't hurt, either. the core 2 duo and quad cores are more than ample. i do a lot of heavy photoshop/illustrator and video work on my lowly dual core 9150 and i have yet to see proof that vista is hogging anything.

and LOL - 50% of what previous figure? i'm sure whatever it is, it's probably nothing to really squawk about.

I go back three years with Vista and have run it thru its evolution up to SP1 RC0 so I think I know what I am talking about,   Core 2 Duo with 2 gigs of DDR RAM Vista will idle using about 600 megs of that RAM while XP uses just slighly over 400 megs.  There's you 50%.

again, my experience with the software seems to tell a different story.

if those are accurate numbers (and not just random ones for argument's sake), then that really isn't anything to be whining about. i mean, i'm also going under the assumption that anyone with half of a clue will realize that vista requires a bit more out of your ram just based on the differences between the luna and aero interfaces.

I am one who uses the PC 8-18hrs a day. I talk in forums, I do web pages..since time before Windows came out. I HATE VISTA!! Since  just this Saturday I have lost two folders.. just by touching on them. They are GONE! Just this hr I lost a folder of Christmas cartoons and designs I had put together to use building web pages. Now I have to get them all again. Saturday I touched on my VERY favorite Favorite folder.. My FORUMS, maybe 10 in it and important ones to me. And it was gone in a flash and believe me I have searched everywhere, not to be found!   I am not a novice exactly, after what, 10-12 years.?? I have lost things since I got Vista on the new computer. Never found  them. Some I cannot redo!!   Thank GOD I have  another computer with XP on it, and I am about to just throw this whole cvomputer out the window!! It is trash! IMHO of course.. HA BTW I am a 64 yr old woman with NO prev exp w/computers untilI got one. I am retired and live alone, that is why I am on here so much.

It has only done that since I got the Vista.  How can a folder just evapoate just by clicking on it?

hmmm. Well, I have dial-up, since, in their laziness, Verizon doesn't have copper wires here. So I am getting my internet through Comcast sometime this evening.today. No other option since we already have hi def, so no point in getting a sat. THEREFORE, the VP takes hours to do checks and I am afraid I usually have to  stop the scans or it disconnects on me.  That couls be it. I will surely do a scan right away, when I can.   Thank you very much. This might give me back the ease I have NOT been accustomed to since I moved here a few months ago. I just can't wait. I HATE DIAL UP.
