If you can't logon to Windows - and you have XP Pro - try the following:
Assuming you can access the welcome screen (or a Control - Alt - Delete Prompt) do the following:
1) At the Welcome Screen Press Ctrl - Alt - Del twice to bring up a login prompt
2) In the username box type "Administrator" (no quotes) - leave the password box blank
3) Once you are at the Windows Desktop - Right Click My Computer - Click Manage
4) You will see a Computer Management Console - Click the + sign to expand "Local Users and Groups"
5) Open the Users Folder
6) Find your user account (
not the Administrator account) and right click on it
7) Choose All Tasks - then Set Password
8) Ignore the warning - Click Proceed - Reset the password as you would like (you can leave it blank if you want...)
9) Finally - Right click on your user account again and click properties
10) Place a check in the "Password Never Expires" box and click OK
** After following these steps - it may be useful for you to follow the instructions in the fist link of the first post -- this will bypass any logon prompts when booting up **
