Hyperlinks fail from Outlook Express

My post SP2 computer, running OE v.6, returns an "Invalid syntax error" message when I click on a hyperlink in an e-mail.  Instead of going to the indicated URL, I get:

The page you are looking for might have been removed or had its name changed.

Please try the following:

  • Open the  s: home page, and then look for links to the information you want.
Every hyperlink generates a referral to s: homepage.  I can get to the URL by manually typing or cut/paste the address.  Any ideas about what is going on...or, even more important, how to fix it?

The URL linked to what seemed to be the answer to my question: "You need to go into the Tools options.  Go on the Security Tab and uncheck the box where it says "Block Images and Other External content in HTML e-mail""

I went to Tools -> Internet Options -> Security, but there is no such box (that I can find!).  I looked in the Internet menu, with my settings on (custom) "medium".

That's it!  Of course, I was looking in Internet Explorer...to which the URL refers.  But, indeed, the required box was in OE.

Many thanks,

...I just hope I haven't associated too many files with OE via control panel  :smileysurprised:

That's odd. It was referring to OE after SP2 was installed too.

Can you check and see that IE is associated with HTTP urls?

Go to Control Panel>Folder Options>File types and see if IE is associated with "URL: Hypertext Transfer Protocol"

Jim, Open up Outlook Express>Tools>Options>Security Tab and then look for "Block Images and Other External Content....."It sounds as if you were looking for this in Internet Explorer.
