IE-7

Question

i was wondering if there are so many problems with IE-7 then why are people trying to download it?  why not wait till it is fixed? and also why isnt fixed? why is it downloadable now? shouldnt it work well before it can be installed?  just curious cuz i was going to download it too and after reading all this stuff about IE-7 it just scared me away.

Excellent questions!   I don't recall the last IE upgrade causing so many issues. The reason to upgrade is that IE7 is more secure.   A good site for installation issues is: http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html   I think I'll wait a bit myself.

People download it now so they can have issues and whine about them... LOL. I always wait 30 or more days.

I just checkd out the site for I-E7   its amazing at all the things that you have to know incase it doestn work that is too much trouble for the lay person i am not really computer literate and when you have to read all the problems and try and fix what is wrong by then it makes interneting not fun at all because your on line trying to fix things all day i will wait too,.

hmmm, I have been using IE7 since its first Beta's many months ago and haven't encountered any noteable issues and installed on both a home built AMD W2K box and my current primary Dell 9150-WinXP box.

I did see a couple weird crashes when quiting IE7 in one of the Beta's (beta 2 I think?) but nothing since and might have been related to having some Office 2007B2 (not B2TR) items active at the same time?

Since it's release I have put IE7 on my wife's Dell 1100-XP Home with no problem and she hasn't seen anything beyond usage differences. No weird or extra efforts needed.

I am far from a MS fan but was glad to see that they did see the light and are attempting to bring IE back into closer to par with what others have had for quite some time. ...enough that I have dropped FireFox for now.

Good point.   I'm torn - I have nothing else I can do, stuck inside like this................  I'm tempted, but I think I'll wait a little bit longer - call me a wimp! :smileyvery-happy:   WMP 11 went fine for me, and I see just as many negative posts about that too, so I assume all would be good.

I have installed IE7 on a dozen or more machines with nary a single issue . .

I suspect it is much like the hullabaloo around SP2 . . the only posts you see are those with problems . . not the other 99.9%

Have you guys read much of the Microsoft Community Board about it?   Problems everywhere - lol - but also some very successful installs it seems - one guy made a very valid point that it might help if people posted their systems details - there must be a common thread somewhere that links the successful and the unsuccessful installs.  System preparation may be part of the problem, perhaps.   This post wasn't really to you Rick, I just picked yours!  But like you, I'm going to wait a bit, it seems if it causes a problem it does it most regally!:smileyvery-happy:   If anyone wants an excuse to stay home and read and post on forums, I'm happy to give mine away to the first offer - nothing worse than spring bugs!

I have installed IE7 on four different computers and encountered zero problems. Although I have downloaded "Menu on top" utility as I prefer to have an old style menu on top.

Not a single issue with IE7 here neither. I ran it trouble free, and it was somewhat faster than IE6. I've read on another forum that others have seen a speed increase also. I just couldn't get used to the new appearance of it, so I reverted back to IE6.  I had no problems with the deletion of IE7 and no problem with reinstalling IE6 on my Dell E-510. That tabbed browsing was cool though.....

There are some problems with a few web sites, whose webmasters have not yet updated their code, but that is not IE7's fault: it conforms more closely with coding standards than IE 6 did and the workarounds for IE 6 don't work for IE 7. Webmasters have had months to take account of that.
