IE6 requires reboot each time used

After my computer has been on for a while and I attempt to start Internet explorer I get the message "server could not be found". I reboot and everything works fine. As long as I stay on the internet I have no problems but when I get off and later try to get back on I have to reboot. This is a recent problem.

No new hardware or software, no virus, ad-aware and spy-bot show no problems. Not a serious problem but a real annoyance. Anybody have a suggestion?

Dim 8200, P4 2.6, 512k rdram, 2 wd80 hd in raid 1, tbsc sound card, ati9600 pro, klipsch ultra 4.1, xp home with sp1.

If sounds like an internet connection more than an I.E. issue.  When you get that, can you still access e-mail?  If you open a second I.E. windows (hold the shift key down and click on the I.E. icon to open a second I.E.) does the send one work OK?

Firebyrd: Thanks for the quick answer. If ie6 will not open my e-mail (outlook express) also will not open. Once I get onto the internet then I can minimize ie, double click the shortcut on my desktop and open several copies of ie and all work. I'll call my isp, Charter, tomorrow. Thanks again.

Contacted ISP (Charter) who said trying replace cable from cable modem to computer or replace NIC card.

Changing cable did not work. Replaced NIC card and problem solved.

Thanks again for help.
