Improper shutdown(Inspiron 6400 vista rtm)

Question

Hi,
I have dual boot vista rtm and MCE on my new Inspiron 6400. This morning I closed the lid without turning off the laptop before I went out. After I came back, I opened it and my laptop has rebooted and I saw a dialog box saying that my laptop just recovered from a improper shutdown. It says a BlueScreen happened and shows me some names of files: Mini020307-02.dmp, sysdata.xml, Version.txt .
Actually, the same thing has happened 4 or 5 times during a few days.
If someone can help me, that'll be great.

BTW, it mentioned about minidump, what is it? I checked that folden but it seemed to emptied after the reboot.

A minidump is data that MS can use to troubleshoot your problem. Are you in Vista when this happens? Are all your drivers up to date? Does the same thing happen when you click the 'Sleep' button on the Vista start menu?

You can wake up the laptop by pressing the same button you use to start it. :smileywink:

2.Yes, I download all the required vista 32 drivers from the dell website and installed them once I finished the vista setup.

3.I just tried, but I don't know how to wake up my laptop:smileyindifferent: and I had to reboot brutally.

The weird thing is that it never happens when the lid is open or it's just closed for a while.

Lol, i thought I was supposed to press another button. Actually, I tried by pressing the Power button but seemed to be useless. I'll MCE then.

EDIT:Nevermind, I just realised that I pressed hibernate instead of sleep.

Which video drivers are you using? Dell's?

I'm not seeing any here on my 6400. I wonder if it could be due to a program running in the background? AV, etc.

Yes, for 32bit Vista. I just tested it in MCE when I closed the lid and left it for a while. EVerything was fine. Maybe some incompatibilities with Vista?

Ya, I was thinking about that too. I'll probably try to test it with the 'suspicious' background programs disabled  tonight and see what it turns out. Thanks for the replys.:smileytongue:

I disabled the automatic restart when BSOD occured. And finally saw what the problem is. ' Driver_power_state_Failure 0X00000009F ..... ' I'll post the picture later.
