INF file\i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid.................HELP
I recently did a repair to Windows XP. Since then I haven't been able to install windows updates to my computer. I have tried over and over to get support from microsoft. They keep giving me the same instructions over and over. They keep failing no matter what it is that I do. I just decided to do another "repair" to windows but now I get this error message:
Line 1 of the INF file\i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid
Can someone please advise me on this.

Not sure what file damage has been done, other than txtsetup.sif or if this will fix it?
But try this:
Start > Run type in sfc /scannow (note blank space between sfc & /) then click OK

Not sure of the reason for initial windows repair or what procedure you followed?
But sounds like something has gone really wrong – quote, “I now can't even get into windows update page”
Assume you mean the MS Windows Update web site link?
This Michael Stevens procedure mentions Automatic Updates stops working after a repair install of Windows XP, with a solution link to MS KB article 555615
If you Google search Line 1 of the INF file\i386\txtsetup.sif is invalid you will find all sorts of causes, most include a status or error code number
Solutions vary from modifying txtsetup.sif (as explained in link from pcgeek11) to some even suggesting changing RAM speed in BIOS setup (not possible in most Dell PCs)
To be honest if the above procedure links don’t fix your problem I’d save/backup all personal files/data, then use:
PC Restore Symantec utility, a.k.a. DSR (Dell System Restore)
