Yes you should be able to as drivers are availabel HERE.

When installing the OS you will need to do a clean install you cannot upgrade. This means you will wipe out all your data and all your programs will need to be reinstall. So make sure you Back up your data before you do this.

Once installed follow the Steps HERE on the order to reload your system drivers

If there are 2 units of Inspiron 1440 laptops. One unit is installed with Vista 32 bit OS the other unit is with Vista 64 bit Os, which unit is better? Which one will you choose?

I am pro 64 bit and will not go back to 32 bits. I find the OS more robust, quicker, and less prone to having crashing issues. That being said one has to take inventory of their software and external hardware to see they will work under 64 bit system. Most of the newer hardware and software will be 64 bit compatible

I have no idea regarding Li-Ion battery. I tried ask Dell support he told to refer to a link.

For the Lithium-ion Battery that come with laptop,what is the best way to recharge the battery to maximize the battery life?
Do I need to wait until the battery is empty then I charge it or I have to charge it whenever I can?

If you frequently drain and then recharge a lithium-ion battery, it can quickly lose its ability to hold a charge. The practice of completely draining and then fully charging a battery is advice that applied to nickel cadmium (NiCd) batteries and, to a lesser extent, nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. Lithium-ion batteries last longer if you charge them often, a little at a time, to maintain a minimum charge of about 40 percent capacity.

Does the statement at the top means, we have to charge the Lithium-ion battery when the battery shown remaining power of less than 40%?
Charging the battery before it drain/empty can maximize the battery life?

Is it recommended from Dell to remove the battery from the laptop & use AC Adapter to do our work to protect the battery?
