Inspiron 15 7537 Won't Shut Down Completely In Windows 10

Approximately 50-75% of the time I try to completely shut down my laptop (Dell Inspiron 15 7537), it will fail to completely shut down.  The screen will turn off and the computer will be completely unresponsive to input on the keyboard/trackpad, but the backlight on the keys will remain on and I can hear the fan running inside the laptop.  The laptop will remain warm to the touch for hours if left in this state.  The only way to complete the shutdown process at this point is to hold down the power button for 5 seconds until the laptop fully shuts down.

This was not an issue in Windows 8/8.1, but only started happening after I upgraded to Windows 10.  This has led to some frustrating situations where I walked away from the laptop thinking it was shut down, only to come back later to find out that the battery was completely drained.  How do I solve this?  Thanks.

Fast start fixed the problem for me.

I've got an SSD and can't notice any difference, so I'm happy with that.

u might try going to intel web site and try and install the older version of intel mangement engine.. version 10..

also go to system advanced setting in control panel and make sure u do not have automatic driver updates selected, bcoz it may be updating automatically to the version causing the problems.

Seems to be a problem with Intel Management Engine Interface 11.0.0.1153 upgrade the driver to 11.0.0.1162:

Hi !
I had the problem before,
The problem lies with the management interface driver,

There is a EASY FIX !
Follow the steps and let me know
1) Right Click " Start button"
2) Now go to " Device Manager "
3) In device manager, under system devices find " Intel Management Engine Interface "
4) Now right click on it and select properties
5) Go to Power Management tab
6) Now " Uncheck " the check box saying " Allow this to turn off this device to save power "

That's It . Now time to check.

Same Dell 7537, same issue. I thought the computer will restart after a while, but is was not properly shut down. The keyboard back light is the indicator. Please share your findings :-)

I have the same issue as the OP (shutdown failure, must hold down power button to reboot, keyboard backlight still on).  I've tried the following:

-- updated my printer driver from HP, and all dell drivers I could find for my 7537

-- already had updated driver for Intel Rapid Storage Tech, suggested by Legacy3010.

-- I tried updating the driver of the IMEI as suggested by natacuc4 on my 7537 and it did not fix the issue .

-- disabled IMEI; did not help.  Also tried enabled but unchecking the box on the advanced tab as other suggested -- did not help.

-- confirmed that it will shutdown in safe mode (so, must be a driver, right?)

*** Disabling fast start worked for me ***  !!!

Just simple solution, do as I suggest

Step 1: Go to device manager

Step 2: find Intel management

Step 3: Go to properties and turn off the power control check ☑

That's all, enjoy
