install backup utility on xp home edition

i purchased my dell dimention 4500 3 years ago and it's great--never a problem; it runs xp home edition. i want to add the xp backup utility but it must be loaded manually from the xp cd which i can no longer locate. do i have to purchase xp again or is there another alternative??

For the sole purpose of installing the backup utility (but not to install/reinstall XP), you could borrow an XP CD from a friend. Rather than install from the CD, I would copy the folder VALUEADD\MSFT\NTBACKUP and its contents to your PC. That way you have the installer in case you need to reinstall it some time.

Ot maybe a friend could copy that folder from their XP CD and put it on a floppy or burn it to a CD for you (it's less than 800kb).

thank you for the advice. most my friends use the professional version of xp instead of home edition.....will that do?  is it possible to download this file from dell?
