Install W2K on 5160
I am trying to install W2K Pro on an Inspiron5160. I have done this and now am trying to get my drivers, which is creating mega problems. I am getting an error when executing the Notebook Systems Software. The error that I am getting is "This computer does not support this operating system" I need help. The person I spoke to at Tech support from Dell, told me to make sure that I had all of the servicepacks, which I have done (4 is up to date) and this still is not working. Can anyone PLEASE help me.......:smileysad:

Dell lists Win2K drivers for the 1150, but no reinstall guide.

Instructions are not a problem, but from this list:
System and Configuration Utilities -> Dell Notebook System Software (all 3 listed versions)
gives you this very welcome message - "This computer does not support this operating system" just after start.
Do you think it's a bug or a new driver certification procedure?

Hopefully it's the latter, but I have no way of knowing. Are there "inf" files involved in the installation that might be edited to remove the OS restriction? That's worked for some of the wireless adapters.
I found this thread searching Google for "Dell Notebook System Software" (including the quotes). Same system model, same problem. It reports mixed results achieved by ignoring the issue!
See also this thread that I found in a Google newsgroup search. It sounds like there's a twisty but successful path through this one.
This is the search expression I used for the Google groups search. There are several articles about the 1100 and Win2K besides the one I listed above. Hopefully they apply to the 1150 as well.
(edit) Changed subject to show this is an 1150 problem.
