Install win XP: no compatible partition.
Hi!
I have a dell mini10.
I want to dual boot windows XP and several dist. of linux. I have already installed all the linuxs on different partitions and I have also created a NTFS patition under linux in order to install XP.
I made a bootable USB from the winXP installation CD, I can boot on it and then I select the NTFS partition to install XP on it. Problem: "the disk contains no winXP-compatible partion". Creating a new one instead, only the size is changeable (no choice concerning the file system). Then the created partition leads to the same problem...

You have to follow certain procedures to create a dual boot with XP when Linux is installed first. See if there's help here for XP SP3 and Ubuntu 8.04.
If you're using other Linux distributions, the instructions may be different :emotion-5: so google for them.

I follow the procedure decribed in the link... there's no problem with that: i know how to handle Grub.
Problem comes during the windows installation: there is no way that windows can be installed on the NTFS partition. I find strange that the windows install cd (that I recieved with my dell laptop) contains no partition editor (or at least, it is not possible to create a proper NTFS partition).
