Installed printer OK - but now can't find driver

I have a Epson Photo 1290 printer - on the Epson site there is no driver for Vista - it says to use driver supplied with computer.

This was indeed the case because I plugged it in a few weeks ago - it installed a driver and worked.  Excellent!

Yesterday I connected the printer to another PC briefly and then attached the USB lead again to my Vista machine (Dimension E521 running Home premium). On doing this I get the message "Windows needs to install driver software" and on using the "locate and install driver software" option I now get nowhere. It can't seem to find the driver on the machine whereas it did before.

Where should I be looking for this driver? Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Scott

The driver is installed when you choose Add a Printer. It should still be installed unless you connected the printer to a diff usb port and/or you did not reboot the computer. The computer thinks it is a new printer. Reboot and if it still doesn't recognize the printer, just use Add a Printer to install it again. You can install the same printer many times.

Thanks Mary

In fact I have just discovered that the issue turned out to be resting with the wrong lead being identified in a complete confusion of cables!  Too confusing to explain further but of course your comments are correct when the right lead was attached.

Glad to hear that. You must have the same mess of cables as I do!:smileyvery-happy:
