installing new hard drive
I have a inspiron 530 desktop. After I install the new hard drive waht disk do i run first? I have a drivers disk and a system install disk that came with the computer when i purchased it.
No Events found!

The first disk you would need would be the CD for installation of the operating system. The drivers cannot be installed until you have an operating system to install them to.
Remember that with a Dell you must install the Desktop System Software (DSS, if it is available for your computer) and the Intel Chipset Driver first and in that order. Dell recommends that you install the drivers for video, network, and sound following the DSS and chipset driver.

Can I do this without an operating computer or can I download this to a memorystick and then upload to my system at home?

Sorry, but you need to back up a step. I thought you had the drivers CD. If you don't have the Dell Resource CD for your computer (or you just want to use the most recent drivers), yes, you can use another computer to connect to the Dell support page and download the current drivers for your computer.

I've installed all of this and the only thing is now it wont let me get on the internet. I have a ATT 2wire router and it doesnt recognize it. What should I do

First, tell us how the computer is connected to the AT&T router. Is it an Ethernet cable to an RJ-45 connection on the back of the computer (looks like an oversize phone plug)? Or is it a USB cable?
If you followed the driver installation order you should already have a working Ethernet port. I'm not familiar with the AT&T router, but for now I am assuming that the equipment is physically connected as follows: wire from wall goes to a phone connection on the router, cable from router goes to the computer. If you have this connection you should first turn everything off for about five minutes, including shutting down the computer. When all has rested, turn the AT&T router on, allow all the flashing lights to settle out to their normal flashing routine. When the router has finished initializing, turn the computer on. This allows the router to learn the MAC (hardware) address of the computer so that it can assign the computer an IP address. If this is your only problem, your equipment should now work.
If your computer uses a USB connection to the router, you should have first loaded an application supplied by AT&T. For help with that you will need to contact your provider.

Maybe I missed something. I ran the install disk and the drivers disks that came with the unit. I noticed that on the support.dell site it has some downloads and drivers i could download. would any of these help and if so how could I get these sence I cant download through my computer. These will not let me download to a memorystick.

It is through an ethernet cable. I have tried what you suggested and this didnt work. Is ther maybe a setting I need to change? Im clueless!

If you are using the Dell Resource CD, bear in mind that simply running it and allowing the application to install does not automatically install the drivers. You should select your computer model from a list at the left of the Resource CD window and then click on Drivers in the menu at the top of the window. You must then click on each file having a check-mark beside it one at a time. When you do that a box should appear asking if you would like to save or open the file. Select Open. The file should expand itself and save the files in the C:\Dell\Drivers directory. An installation wizard should then appear and you should choose to install the file if you are offered an option. Once the wizard has completed you should eject the CD, restart the computer, reinsert the CD to begin again once the computer has booted, and repeat this operation for each file that has a check-mark by it. Remember, the DSS (if available for your computer; not all have it) and the chipset driver must be the first drivers installed.
With regard to downloading the drivers from the Dell support page; Dell has recently added an option to the downloads page that is supposed to make downloading "easier". My experience thus far is that it is anything but easy. Don't use the Downloads Manager; select instead to download directly via the browser you are using. You should be able to download each, one at a time.

I am accually at work and am relaying this to my wife to do. I had her call ATT and they told her I may need a new network adaptor. I dont understand, because I had no problems before I installed the new harddrive. I will try the CD again when I get home. I dont remember any boves poping up when the disk was running.

After putting in the drivers disk again I did notice that the network driver wasnt loaded. I now have full functions. Thanks alot for your help.
