Installing win 98 over win 95

Question

I am a novice who was given a XPS M233s. It was used as an office PC and has Win 95 as the OS. I have a Win 98 se installation disk and would like to install it over the Win95 but am not quite sure how to go about it. Do I need to back up files or other programs? If so, how do I go about that? There are a few applications such as Excell and Word that I would like to save, but alot of programs that are of no use.  What would be the best approach.  I do have a supply of floppy disks but do not know how to go about formatting them and then saving the programs on them as has been suggested to me.  I know this is old hat to most but would really appreciate some sound advice.    Thank you :smileyhappy:

Installing Windows 98 is not a difficult problem but you will lose all your installed programs, as you cannot simply copy them to floppies and then copy them back after 98 is installed. The procedure for installing 98 is here.
