Installing Windows 7 on Latitude D410

Question

Hi

I had bought a Windows 7 package some time ago for my Daughters Dell Latitude D410 , So I thought yesterday I will put it on , not realising that there is no cd/dvd drive on it .

This may be a stupid Question , but how can I get it onto Her Dell , I have opened the package so I can not return it .

For best results see my wiki A Clean install of Windows 7.

Note that Windows 7 isn't officially supported on this system. Hence Dell don't provide any drivers for the system. However likely Windows 7 will have all the necessary drivers inbuilt for this system.

You should run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor before installing Windows 7.

Likely you will need Windows 7 32 bit. I doubt the 64 bit version will be compatible.

You may need to follow the instructions here for installation of the Video and Dell Quickset; its a bit more involved than normal but will work.

Hi spike44,

Re-installing the operating system wipes the hard drive clean. Therefore, please backup all important data before initiating the operating system reinstall. To install windows 7 on your system, you will need to purchase an external USB CD/DVD drive.

To answer your question about installing without a DVD drive - a DVD drive is NOT required - you can install via USB key/flash drive: jesscoburn.com/.../installing-windows-2008-via-usb-thumbdrive
