Installing WIndows Vista On XPS M1730
Normal 0 false false false EN-CA X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4
Ok what I'm I've been trying to do is install windows vista ultimate 32bit on my laptop; I've done this before with no problems. The reason for the install is just a mass clean and a start over. Now the problem I'm having is at the point of the install after its go through: Copying Windows files, Expanding file, Installing features, and Installing updates. At the point where its Completing installation it stays at this point forever. No I don't thinks its frozen because there are three little "..." that are being loaded and reloaded. I'm stuck and could use any suggestions.

001134112,
Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.
I have the same problem and i receive from dell suport this message:
You will need to install the Sata Driver. On one of the setup screens is an option to install drivers on the lower right side of the screen. Choose this option and put the Dell Driver disk in. The driver it is looking to install is the Intel Matrix Storage Driver. If you need to download this driver and put it on a disk you can click the title below.
Another way to complete the install without first installing the driver is to change the bios setting to ATA. To do this restart the system and press F2 to enter setup. Once there you can TAB down to Onboard Devices and hit Enter. Then tab down to SATA Operation. You will then see at the top of the screen on the right side ATA and AHCI. Change this to ATA. Save the changes and exit out. Once the system restarts you should be able to complete the install. After the install and you have loaded the drivers you will need to go back into the bios and change the setting back to AHCI.

Hello Jesse:
I was having a similair problem. I followed your directions about, but when i attempted to load the Intel Matrix Storage drivers file name R154198 it would fail during the installation stating that my laptop "doesn't meet the minimum requirements to install this software, the setup will now exit". I am at a loss.
Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated!
thanks
Mad Max
