InstallShield Engine (ikernel.exe) could not be launched. No such interface supported
Last month I tried to install an anti-virus program which failed, and now I keep getting an error message whenever I try to install something else: "the InstallShield Engine (ikernel.exe) could not be launched. No such interface supported." I'm running Windows XP Professional with service pack 2.
I've been all around InstallShield's/Macrovision's website, tried everything they listed, and still nothing works. I can't install their new ikernel.exe update to replace the old file because again, I can't install anything. They gave me some possible missing files to look for, and they're all here, nothing's missing. I tried the DCOM settings, but those were all fine, too. I cleaned the temp directory, etc. etc. Microsoft sent me here to Dell.
I guess my last option is to wipe the computer and re-install everything, that way InstallShield will be in its original, un-messed-up form. Help!!

I am getting the same error trying to install network scanning software for my Dell 1600N laser printer. The software is included with a printer driver update. The InstallShield works fine for the rest of the software, but when it gets to the scanning software, this error pops up. I'm not having issues installing most other software, only some. I have also tried all the solutions at the InstallShield website.
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wit's end here!
