Interactive Services Dialog Detection pop-up & "dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload"
I have a Dell Vostro 1000 laptop with Windows Vista home basic.
Starting mid-morning today (4th September 2010) I've started getting the following pop-up:
When I click "Show me the message" I get a pale blue/grey blank screen with an Internet Explorer window which has http://dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload-en.html in the address bar. The page doesn't load though and I have only just (after trying several times over the last few hours) got it to load in a normal internet window. Here it is:
This to me does not look like a genuine Dell site and the Whois look up says that ddsupdate1.com is registered with "Domains by Proxy" which I understand is used to mask the identity of the website owner.
Anyway, I have McAffee on my computer which hasn't picked this up so I am unsure of what to do next. If I close the little pop-up, it just reappears after about a minute. I don't like the idea of this "thing" being on my computer!
Any help is grateully received. Thank you!

I don't mind the minor inconvenience of this window popping up - until it can be properly fixed - but would someone from Dell PLEASE tell us, at least, if this is just a bug or if there is some MALWARE involved? Please!

Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop.
I don't have any Data Safe programs on my laptop and don't recall having any either.
Started getting the pop up Saturday evening 7pm GMT and was gone after restarting.

Dell Inspiron 530S workstation
Never used any Data Safe programs and not even heard of them before having this issue and looking at this thread.
Started getting the pop up Saturday morning around 11am GMT (I'm in the UK) it didn't reappear after a restart - I didn't change anything.
However, I did (prior to the reboot) click on "show message" on the "interactive services dialog detection" pop up - the IE window shown said "Connecting" and I clicked cancel before I saw the URL. I'm only guessing it was the Data Safe URL mentioned in this thread.
Like others have said, I'm not worried about the pop-up (which has now gone in any case) - I just want reassurance that this was down to some component of Dell software and not any malware. Please confitm ASAP.

Jesse L - I'm going out on a limb here by making the assumption you have a Dell computer of some sort. Did you receive the Interactive services dialog pop up box, too?

Jesse,
Some points:
1 ) This thread started before the Clarita_ started. If you check the timestamp of the post
2) As soon as the other thread started, we (all) here jumped to the other thread. No one is posting in this thread
3) We have DELL and we already posted the models on the other thread.
4) Your assumption is Correct. All of us recived the Interactive services dialog pop up box with the IEFRAME.dll and the "dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com/DSLDownload" starting last Friday if the people select to view the message.
Best regards.

I have this exact thing happening today, although mine is on a desktop. I look forward to seeing any replies. I did find out how to disable the Interactive Service Dialog Detection-
Go to Start menu
in search box type "services"
Go down the list to Interactive Services Dialog detection and click on it to disable it.
So, I got the box to stop popping up, but I want to know if this is malware and what to do about it.

I'm having the exact same problem. I've got an XPS 420 running Vista.
Dell: Please let us know whether this is a malware issue or something innocuous. And for heaven's sake, please get us a solution.

I have a Dell C521, and do not have Dell DataSafe at all.

The solution seems to be to just shut down the computer and turn it back on.
I also think it has something to do with the Data Safe applications and Dell isn't saying anything until they have an acceptable solution so everyone doesn't just remove these potential money making applications.
I'm telling you, I removed the Dell Data Safe remote program (which I hadn't used since Feb.), and my computer is markedly faster on start up. Could be coincidence but I don't think so.

Dell Inspiron 1525 Laptop w/Vista has same problem. No Dell backup software. First received message on 9/7/10 after being off computer for about a week.
Add'l Info: Received ZoneAlarm Free Security Alert message: Dell Installation Environment Detection trying to access http:/dslbdownload.ddsupdate1.com. Program = DSLCheck.exe (located in C:\ProgramData\Dell\DSL).
Today, 9/8/10, also receiving ZoneAlarm Free Security Alert for the following --not sure if this is associated and if the access should be granted:
Dell Wireless WLAN Card Wireless Network Tray Applet is trying to access the Internet - Application WLTRAY.exe.

webless,
I have 3 Dell portable systems including my work system which is a Latitude E6400. I have not gotten that message. I do not have the Datasafe on any of my computers. This is really interesting to see that some people have datasafe and some do not but still get the message. Dell engineers are working to get this resolved.

It's possible that those that think they don't have Data Safe do just don't know it.
Check this: go to your reliability report and see if you see any updates or attempted updates from "MarketResearch". I was getting them everyday. They were listed as "failed" application change attempts. Since I uninstalled Data Safe 4 dyas ago I haven't gotten one of these failed updates and my computer is booting a lot faster. I wouldn't be too sure that this program is not on your computer, you may just not know it.

The reliability monitor shows no failures for 4th Sept or the preceding 4 days. DataSafe was uninstalled over one year ago (maybe 18 months) and I can't find any "leftovers" that the installer missed.

I have a Dimension C521, purchased in 2005. No Date Safe, and I had the problem.
