Internet Explore Hangs Up On Certain Sites Only

I have a strange problem with my Dell laptop. The problem is relevant to internet explore. I have version IE6. (The following is an example of the problem, but I occasionally have the same problem on other sites.) I click on CNN and the home page comes up with no problems. So does all of the links on CNN home page except any page connected to their business section. When I click on a link to a CNN Business article, IE6 hangs up. This is consistent about 90% of the time, however on rare occasions the page loads up with no problem. The page hangs up at different stages of loading. I have to “X” out or use Task Manager to end the program. Each time I send an error report when it asks me to.

I have two Dell computers; desktop about 4 years old and laptop less than a year old. I have the same service programs loaded on both that include Norton 360 and Spy Sweeper. I do not have this problem on my desktop. I have disabled both of these programs to see if that helped, but it did not. I have Windows Firewall disabled as I use my Norton Firewall. I have my Internet properties Security and Privacy set at default levels on both desktop and laptop. I tried lowering my Security level on my laptop, but it does not allow me to do that.

Hope I have given enough info for someone to help out and give me some ideas. Thanks to all who respond.

The problem is most likely related to the "old" I.E.6, but reset the Internet Options/Advanced and delete the temporary internet files (you won't lose any connectivity to any site just that the next time you visit sites it will load all info from those sites).  Many web sites have been updated to support I.E.7 and that MAY be the issue.  However, even with Vista and I.E.7 I occasionally have problems getting video from CNN until I clear the temporary internet files.

Thanks fireberd for your response. I followed your advise for both actions, however it did not help. I had previously unchecked a couple of things on the Advanced tab to fix earlier problems, so I went back to Default as you suggested in hopes that would correct my current problem. I will keep trying, and hope someone will find a fix. I have resisted going to IE7 because of some of the known problems with it, but I may try it again just the same. If it does not help, I will revert back to IE6. Will post the results here later in case someone else runs into this problem.

Install firefox and see if you still have problems. I have seen issues that I have been able to work around using firefox.
