Internet Explorer/free.net
What is free.net.net? I removed it using the control panel add/remove programs and now internet explore will not find any pages on the internet. I was on the phone troubleshooting my connections and they are working fine. My friend brought her computer over and used my connections and her computer worked fine. So I know there is nothing wrong with the connections.
Is there a way to manually enter the IP address in internet explorer? There must be some way to get internet explorer to recognize my connection without using the "wizard" which are great when when they work but useless when they don't.

It sounds like spyware. Download Ad-aware from here and Spybot from here. Check online for updates to their databases then run them and delete all the spyware they identify.
If that does not rectify the problem download HijackThis from here. Run it and post the log it generates here, here, or here where the experts can analyze it and provide corrective measures.

ellsun,
If your friend has a CD writer on her machine, download the files you need on her machine and transfer them to yours. Most of the files suggested will fit on a floppy.
I'd add one more to Denny's list: WinsockXPfix, in case the removal of the program corrupted your networking software.
If you have XP Service Pack 2 installed, you may also want to try the "netsh winsock reset catalog" command described here.
(edit) Another possibility is to use XP's "System Restore". Pick a date that's before the problem began. If that works, you should use the programs in the links in Denny's post to rid your system of spyware/malware.

Golly, I'm sorry we're all alike. I just sort of assumed you could get on the Internet since you posted here, but perhaps you mailed your post in.

Well, I guess since you are not on the internet to post or read this message, there is no way that any advice given here will be of any use, since you can't see it anyway. Maybe we are just imagining that we are even reading your message, since you apparently did not go on the internet to post it here.
