iTunes 7.3 & Dell XPS 410

I purchased an iPhone yesterday :smileyhappy: and it's awesome! However, when I installed iTunes version 7.3 (which is necessary to run the iPhone) it caused my RAID array to fail. (I have a RAID 1 array with Dell's "Datasafe" option) This is the second time this has happened after installing iTunes (once with 7.2 and yesterday with 7.3). :smileymad: You get an error message at bootup stating the hard drives and RAID array have failed. The first time this happened, I got a new computer but when it happened yesterday, I entered the RAID configuration (CTRL-I). I found out that iTunes (or more specifically, the drivers for the new iPhone) caused the problem and the backup hard drive in the array was corrupt. Don't ask me how, but I was able to get Vista to boot and then it reconstructed the backup hard drive and everything is fine again.  :smileyhappy:

I loaded iTunes 7.3 on my Sony VAIO laptop and it runs flawlessly; go figure! You need this program to sync your phone for any purchased music and the data that is contained in MS Outlook.

Anybody else have any experiences with iPod, and or iPhone and iTunes 7.3 on their Dell?

THANK YOU!!!  :smileywink: I knew there was something wrong with iTunes & Vista with RAID arrays. I only wish I'd seen this article sooner because it would have saved me a lot of frustration and turmoil.

I hope they figure out a "fix" so I can sync with my desktop rather than the Sony laptop.

Does not say squat about being Vista compatible, I think they are still looking for guinea pigs. Only lists Vista under "System Requirements"

Anybody have any information about the compatibility of the newly released version of Quicktime that is Vista compatible (v. 7.2 )? Now BOTH iTunes (v. 7.3.1) and Quicktime (v. 7.2) say they are Vista compatible but I am leary because of iTunes/Quicktime crashing my RAID 1 array two times in the past. I installed the new BIOS and Intel drivers for the RAID array but am still scared to try it. Anybody have any luck with these programs and a Dell with RAID array 0 or 1?

I have an iPhone that must use ITunes to sync and right now, I'm doing this on my Sony VIAO laptop which runs Windows XP (service pack2). I'd like to connect it to my Dell XPS 410 with Vista eventually.

One would assume that when they say the OS system requirements  for these versions is XP & Vista that they are compatible.  But, you are right about me not wanting to be a guinea pig.

"System Requirement" is a vague reference to compatibility at best. With Vista being the latest greatest, most software vendors splatter "Vista compatible" all over, but I guess there is a conflict of interest here with Mac.

Come on, be a beta tester. :smileywink:

Quicktime will blue screen Windows Vista if you use RAID or SATA hard drives when playing videos. I use VLC media player to play movie files. First they look better. The edges are smooth and not rough and it does not crash windows.

What is VLC player and will it work with iTunes 7.3?

Still waiting to hear if any brave souls out there have had luck with the Dell XPS 410 with a RAID (1) array and running iTunes 7.3 and Quicktime 7.2. I have loaded the latest Intel drivers for the Matrix Manager (RAID) and the latest BIOS but still have not had the courage to re-intall iTunes & Quicktime because it crashed my RAID array two times in the past.

Anybody have any luck? :smileysurprised:
