iTunes and Several Other Programs Not Working! HELP PLEASE!

Question

Hello, I just received a brand new Dell Inspiron 6000 Windows XP computer ....   The startup and everything looked good and fine, so I downloaded a few programs such as AIM, Ares (Downloading Music), iTunes, Limewire, and Ad-Aware...   I deleted all the free AOL and Earthlink programs, and i deleted the Musicmatch Jukebox program, though I kept the Musicmatch for Windows Media Player Program.   AIM, Internet Explorer, and Ares seem to be working fine, but Limewire, itunes, and Ad-Aware ALL are having problems running. It can't be a memory issue. If I double click on iTunes it refuses to start. I have tried opening it in every way and it WON'T open by any means. Limewire does the same thing. Ad-Aware opens but freezes up immediately after opening.   What is going on? Help would be much appreciated.   I also plugged in an External Hard Drive which i have been using for years which holds my over 4000 songs, most of which are formatted for iTunes and were bought in iTunes so i need iTunes to be my media player. I don't want Musicmatch or anything else, i need iTunes, and i have downloaded it 3 different times and it refuses to work!   Thanks, Message Edited by EJacobyNY151 on 08-09-2005 01:12 PM

I hope you scanned you machine after adding Limewire, right?  The last I heard that software was so full of spyware it was pathetic, and where are you downloading music from, legit sites I hope???

i have a similar problem i use ishareit to share files with my friends that are too big to fit in e-mails. I just bought a new xps desktop and it wont let me use ishareit. The program will start but it wont connect. what should i do?

I offered some insight for people who are not aware of the serious implications of using P2P programs like the one you are using. Files you think may be music files may indeed be filled with spyware. Secondly if you are not running any sort of spyware scanning software along with Anti-virus and still downloading music files from P2P servers, then you deserve what you get.

Have you read the manual for the iTunes software???????

I'm not an idiot, yes I know all of those things. I havent even been able to RUN P2P programs, and I almost NEVER use them for downloading illegally, i need them to run certain files i have on my external drive that i received from friends, etc. I have more than enough spyware protection. I run a strong Norton Anti-Virus protection.   I got this computer 2 DAYS AGO and I'm wondering why VERY FEW programs that I download from the web work! It's not spyware I know that. I wanna know if some drivers are missing, or some activeX programs are messed or something I don't know.   I CAN'T RUN iTUNES! Or Ad-Aware, Limewire, Shockwave, and many others. I just downloaded Musicmatch Jukebox from the web, that program CAME with this computer, i deleted it immediately upon receiving the comp cuz i figured i would just be using iTunes, now I went to Download Musicmatch again and It doesnt run the setup!   I know what I'm talking about and what I'm doing. I am just extremely, EXTREMELY frustrated because I use computers for 2 things: Internet and Music. I can use AIM and Internet Explorer effectively, but not music at all.   I got this same Dell Inspiron 6000 computer 2 weeks ago and it was severely corrupted and after 10 hours of useless Dell Tech SUpport telling me NOTHING, i sent it back and got this new one and it's not very good.   The point is, I find Dell the least helpful service on EARTH!

Okay, last stab for me.  How do you know it's not spyware? I mean if you can't run Ad-Aware, you don;t really know, do you?    If it's that corrupted why not restore it to the default settings or wipe the drive clean and put back what you want?
