Javascript Problems with XP/IE6

Question

I've had my Dimension 2400 (256 MB/Ram, Pentium 4, 2.8Ghz) for a few weeks now and have been having a problem browsing my Hotmail on IE6, most noticably when I try to empty the 'junk' folder.  When I try to click on 'empty', either nothing happens and I see 'error on page' on the bottom left of the status bar, or it takes quite a while for it to confirm that I do actually want to empty the junk folder.  This has also happened when I tried to empty the trash folder.  I also have a problem with a fan club site I frequent not showing one of the links at the top of its page.  I'm sure this is a javascript problem, and when I attempted to follow Java's troubleshooting instructions, I found that java and my browser were already configured properly.  Is there anything else I can do to take care of this problem?

You can check if JAVA is recognized by using Site http://javatester.org/version.html
if recognized it will connect & display the JAVA version in pink box.
