Just a comment about VISTA vs XP

Question

I am reading many posts that say they are DOWNGRADING from VISTA to XP.   Seems to me that is telling the truth.  Going to XP from VISTA is a downgrade.   I would not downgrade my computer.   I though the idea was to upgrade a computer.   Just my two-cent comment.

I remember people said about XP same as now about Vista.

I agree Vista not so ready, but it's normal for Microsoft new OSs.

I don't have any problems with vista even with old and strange hardware.

Windows could work (just work without any fine, good, bad or else) if it configured by hand with head. Internet is full of tips as well a lot of manuals and user guides.

oh, the OS is ready - i think it's just a matter of people not knowing what they're doing or they're too lazy to update their software. either that or they're all just a bunch of luddites ;)

Finally a positive thread about VISTA>   For a while I thought I was doing something wrong.  I have VISTA and it worked with my printers and scanners and cameras and programs.  All I  have read how it doesn't work with anything.  It doesn't have drivers, etc.   I was beginning to wonder what I did wrong to have it work for me.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to put a 6 six old ugly OS. Luna is the most ugliest thing ever. You got to be crazy to use that theme. Vista looks much more prettier.

All r talking much about pretty Vista, I wish to use Vista but the programs I use does not work on Vista( cad/cam) There is no problem for people using vista for just office work, it will work well, but in design sector most of the programs does not support vista. Even though I have an orginal version of vista, I downgraded the os to xp to run my programs. Is it possible to use both the os in different partitions on the same hard disk?

Yes, you can dual boot XP and Vista on the same drive. There is also a neat little program called VistaBootPro to control the Vista boot manager, you can see it here: http://www.vistabootpro.org/

For the new users who have not been exposed to XP, Vista is perfectly fine. For those of us who know how to keep their legacy systems running and safe, XP is fine. There is a grey area where you have legacy applications that refuse to run on Vista, no matter what and that is not Microsoft's fault, that is the fault of lazy developers who write these program for refusing to update their programs. Rather, they make you purchase new applications. My repsonse to them is to dump them and find a free alternative. I live in both worlds and both OS's work just fine,

speaking as a visual artist and pseudo designer, i can tell you that that isn't true. if the software developer hasn't come out with something to allow the program to run in vista, then it's time to either update your software or you can try running it in vista's compatibility mode.

and quite frankly, cad is obsolete software to begin with, so...

Thats why this country is so great!!! Each is entitled to their own opinion. I have no issues with Vista, but I don't game like most of the rest of the readers here, and I also don't use it on antique machines. I do use alot of resource intensive software(digital and photo editing) so maybe I just don't see it as if I used office alot. Also, the benchmark stuff doesn't mean very much to me, just real world performance, and my adobe software certainally performs better than it did on XP, or maybe it just seems that way?

At any rate, I personally wouldn't even consider XP again. My gripe, and it's not really a grip because everything I need works, is the second and third party designers lack of effort on the x64 platform. They really need to step up their 64 bit development, because that defintily works!!!
