Are you saying that the shutting down message is still happening?

If so is there mention of Isass.exe or RPC in the shut down message?

Sounds like Sasser worm. Format alone won't get rid of it. You should delete all partitions, then format and install. Make sure you disconnect your network cable before reinstall. After the reinstall, make sure you install firewall or enable XP personal firewall before reattaching your network cable, then install all XP critical updates. One of the updates has a patch to block Sasser.

If it's Sasser, why reformat? Enable the XP firewall and install the required Windows Critical Updates! But without details about the bluescreen, no specific advice can be offered.

like someone else said, you need to have a firewall running before reconnecting to the internet after doing a clean install of win xp.. you can use win xp's "internet conection firewall", or some other firewall that you have saved to disks so that you can install it before reconnecting to the internet. if you install sp2 before reconnecting to the internet, you should be safe from the msblaster and sasser worms.. not to mention, with sp2, win xp's firewall is on, by default.. you should order the free sp2 cd from microsoft..

Well I have already formated. As for updates I'm sure I had them all.

No I am not getting that mesg. But the way it boots and a few other problems tells me its still not the way it was. I recived a mesg about deleting the partions then formating. I think I'll try that before put this computer out of my life.

Thanks I haven't tried that yet. I'll get back to you with the results.

Hi dancyoda2000,

Computer's Tip's and How-To's at http://computerhelphow-tos.blogspot.com/

6) Removing Sasser from your computer.

Sasser is a worm that spreads itself via the Internet. An unprotected Windows XP machine will get Sasser within just a few minutes of being put on the net. To protect your system run Windows Update at http://windowsupdate.com/ regularly and use a firewall (a broadband router will do fine).

To remove the Sasser infection follow these steps:

1. Disconnect from the Internet.

2. Disable Sasser to keep your system from rebooting. Click Start, select Run… and enter shutdown -a then press OK. That will stop the worm.

3. Turn on your Windows XP firewall. Open Network Connections, right-click your network connection icon and select Properties. Click the Advanced tab and turn on the firewall. This will prevent reinfection.

4. Reconnect to the Internet

5. Update your anti-virus and disinfect your computer, or download the free Sasser removal tool from SARC. http://www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.removal.tool.html.

6. Run Windows Update at http://windowsupdate.com/ and install all critical updates. You should do this regularly.
