Latest Critical Update KB892130 Validation Tool

Anyone else installed the current critical update KB892130?  What are the reasons for this current update?  I have downloaded and installed the update manually from the Windows Update Site without any apparent validation problems with my Dell 8300 OEM Windows XP software.  Thanks again to any experts on this forum who can comment on this update.

lajolla,

According to this, "After successful validation, a Microsoft Windows Download Key is stored on your system for future use. Then you are returned to the initial download details page to obtain your requested download."

When I first accessed the Windows Update site, only 892130 was available for download. After it was installed I was returned to the Update home page where I could see if any updates were available, so apparently the download verified my copy of XP and installed the Download Key on my sytem. It appears to be a one-time thing, and once that Key is on the system, Microsoft's sites will immediately identify the XP installation as valid and bypass the validation screens which have been increasingly present on MS download sites.

MS strip search. You are lucky you can install any updates. See my Post "Windows Genuine Advantage Valuation Tool".  Read what 13thHouR posted there.

I concur with Denny!  When I originally went to the MS Update site it would ONLY install the new Validation Key...  That only took a few seconds, and once I was 'validated' MS automatically sent me to the 'real' update site.  I backed out, cleaned cookies etc., shut down the browser, waited a while, then went back to the Update site.  That time MS apparently recognized the key and sent me straight to the Updates...  Works pretty cool actually...

Thanks all for the Microsoft info. Their new Windows validation tool seems a pretty straightforward and, so far, very innocent update.
