Lost space on harddrive

May be the built in system resore, it takes snapshots of you system state so you can roll back the system in case of problems.

System Restore was introduced in Windows XP to enable people to restore their computers to an earlier state without losing data (for example, Microsoft Office Word documents, graphics files, or e-mail messages). You don't have to worry about taking periodic system snapshots—System Restore automatically creates easily identifiable restore points. Do this,

open my computer, right click on your c drive, click properties, and disk cleanup. When the disk cleanup window opens, click on other options, under system restore and shadow copies, click clean up, and then delete, then click ok, and then click delete files. This will delete all of your system restore points except for the last one.

It's in the second disk cleanup window,after it scans for things to clean up, up on top in the tabs, it says "more options"

 

 

You can set the properties for system restore in control panel (exactly where I don't recall, I'm running win2k here). That's where you'll be able to delete restore points and set everything.

 

I'm surprised ATFCleaner didn't work, that usually gets way more than Windows can.

When I do what you said to do on disk cleanup it don't list system restore and shadow copies. I don't know why. On my computer that had xp I could set the amount of space for system restore. On disk cleanup on vista it don't list anything. Any Ideas? Thank you
