Low Resources- Out of Memory

Hi, Does anyone know what would cause and/or how to fix out of memory and low resources error messages in Windows 98.  On my PC Windows will load but I cannot open any applications or programs. I get the out of memory- low resources error. I cannot even open accessories/calculator or control panel without this error message being generated. I close programs that were auto launching using cntrl/alt/delete task list and still cannot open anything up without that error message. Please help. Thanks.

This is usually because of a file from Word named (normal.dot) you need to do a search for this file. Then delete it, reboot and word will create a new one. This should clear up the problem. I have a machine with 98se and have had this problem several times. Don't empty your trash until you see if this solves your problem. If it doesn't you can simply go to recycle bin and restore the deleted files. Hope this helps you.

Could also be a swap-file problem.  If normal.dot doesn't fix you, I'd look and see if your swap-file settings are adequate.  (see 'swap file dilemma' above)  There is a good dell knowledge-base article on setting a fixed amount of memory there.
