"Make sure the file name and path arer correct"

I've been doing some more checking on this problem I'm experiencing.

I did a 'trainzoptions.txt' search on the C drive. I came up with 22 'trainzoptions,txt' in the 'Name' column which according to the 'Type' column are shortcuts located, according to the Folder Column, in 'recent Items (C:\Users\Jim\AppData\Roamimg\Mircosoft\Windows)'.

Apparently I tried 22 times to make the changes in that file. I tried to make changes to a couple of those after finding them in the search and couldn't.

I also found during the search, a 'trainzoption.txt' file in the Folder column called 'Trainz(C:\OS\Auran)'. In the Type column it's called a 'text document'. The file in the Trainz folder is also called a 'Text Document.

This I can make changes to, and they take.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this?

user account control is restricting access to the file, since you are not the owner.

 

go to start menu and find the shortcut for notepad. right click on it and click on "run as administrator"

 

p.s. please tell me the changes, i run the program too and interested in this info.

No, that did not do it. I found the notepad icon after clicking on start, right clicked on it, clicked on 'Run As Administrator'. Now there's a little shield to the left of the 'Run As Administrator'.

Then I went to the trainzoptions. txt file in Trainz, tried it again, and got the same results. I've got UTC, TRS2004 and TRS2006. The games seem to load OK and work great, but I want to make some changes in the trainzoptions.txt and it won't let me.

The strang thing is, everything seemed to work OK yesterday morning and I could make changes in those files.

But then two things happened. I believe I was on the Internet, tried to get out and couldn't. I opened Task manager and saw that IE was still running. I tried to end the task, couldn't, tried to get out of Task Manager, couldn't so i finally had to pull the plug. After about 30 seconds I plugged it back in.

Then later on, I got out of IE, went back to the Desktop and all my icons were gone except for Recycle Bin, IE, and Musicmatch. That's when all the problems seemed to start.

It almost sounds like a virus, but I have AVG running and I've had it run a couple of scans and it hasn't found anything.

Heres something you can try if you haven't already -

Make some simple changes to the file, save it some where else like on your desktop, then copy it back to the program folder or where ever it need to be.

 

Its a dumb work around and you shouldn't need to do it, but maybe it will help.

I was thinking about something along that line. I thought I might delete the 'trainzoptions.txt' file in the Trainz folder, and then move the folder I can work with, into it.

Someone told me on the Trainz forum that VISTA wants you to work in user accounts and Trainz prefers admin accounts.

It's a Dell "Scratch and Dent" that I saved about $400 on and I wanted one with the 8800GTX card in it. I just might buy XP and have someone get rid of VISTA for me and install XP in it. I used XP for 5 years on my Deminsion 4500.

My problem with Trainz, and there may be more problems I haven't run into yet, running VISTA, was that I couldn't go into the trainzoptions.txt file and make any changes. Other than that ,UTC, 2004 and 2006 both ran great  using VISTA.  I haven't tried Classics yet. Much better than on my old Dimension 4500 and XP. I always had a problem with frame rates there.
