Maxmized windows not full screen!
This is very strange and I have never met this problem before.
I have a new laptop. This is what I have done.
1 Started the system, uninstalled some software I don't want, such as nero syncup, skype and its toolbar, bing bar, office 2010, McAfee.
2 Then I restarted the computer
Now it has a strange behaviour.
When the UAC window pops up or I change the theme of Windows, all the maximized windows are not fit to the full screen any more. I have attached the screen capture.
Note the empty space above the title bar of IE.
Currently, I notice that when I click on the log off windows button, the screen will be back to normal. Then log in, the screen is still norm. But if UAC pops up, the problem happens. Also the desktop icons will move down and be away from the space above the title bar.
Does anyone have any idea what caused this? I have never had this problem before.

Do you have service pack 1 installed? If not install the standalone version, see if it corrects the problem. Check for a graphics driver update. (See this board here also, they have the same problem)

I have also reported the same problem on my brand new XPS 15 laptop.
Try uninstalling Dell DataSafe program. This solved the issue in my case: the symptoms evidenced when laptop restarted after sleep/hibernation disappeared. One note: I hade to uninstall the program, since disabling it through "msconfig" did not prevent some other modules of Dell DataSafe to load at start-up.

wenbins,
Open Notepad. Click on file, page setup.
You should then see something like...
Also go to
Notepad, right click on it, left click properties, shortcut. From the dropdown menu, select maximized.
Click apply, then ok.
Then try opening notepad.

I think this is the correct answer, lots of people solve it this way.

This is caused by a process called toaster.exe. This process belongs to Dell DataSafe Local Backup. One simple way is to uninstall this software. But it seems that this software is integrated into Dell factory image restore, I am not sure it is safe to uninstall. I checked the startup service shown in the msconfig, and found a familiar name, which is SoftThinks Agent Service.SoftThinks is the software vendor who provides this problematic software. So here is the way to get rid of the process toaster.exe:
Open control panel
Double click on the ‘Administrative Tools’
Double clikc on the ‘Services’
Scroll down and find the ‘SoftThinks Agent Service’, change the startup type to ‘Disabled’, and then click ‘OK’.
Restart your computer, problem solved ;).

You can still use the Dell Quick Restore to factory settings if you uninstall the software. (I have on my XPS 8300) Use it to make the backup discs and then you can rid yourself of it. There is no other use in it unless you pay for it.
