Mc Afee Reinstallation

I am trying to uninstall Mc Afee security and do a reinstall from the disc, because when I boot up my computer it is telling me that some applications are missing. When I try to uninstall from the Safe Mode: it still does not allow me to uninstall.
So I tried putting in the disc hoping it would install the missing components. But it will not allow me to install with out uninstalling what is on my computer already.
Has anyone had this problem? If so how did you remedy it?

Assuming you previously registered the software at the McAfee site, there may be an easier way. Note, if you use McAfee's firewall, you may want to switch over to the XP firewall before you do this, just to be sure you're protected while on line reinstalling McAfee.

With some firewall running, log onto the net. Right-click the Security Center M by the clock and select updates. It should take you to the McAfee site. Log in with your registered username and password when requested. Once you do, it should automatically reinstall McAfee with the latest virus signature file etc. Log off the net, reboot to restart McAfee and check to make sure the Windows firewall is turned off again.

Been there, done that... ;)

If you still have trouble, you should download and run the McAffe removal tool for your product for a complete uninstall.  I find McAfee home products very trouble prone and have stopped using it.
