Correction on my post above.  Search: Card Reader Vanishes instead of Media Card Reader Vanishes.

I've had no problems with my 13 & 1 media card reader that came with my computer. I recieved my system November "06". Remember this forum is mostly used by people asking for help/advise when there is a problem.

Do you happen to have a printer with card reader slots.

I now believe there may be a conflict between the Dell card reader and the card reader in my HP C6280  3 in one  printer scanner.

No, I don't have a printer with card reader slots. But I find it hard to imagine that a card reader in an external printer would have this effect (possible I suppose though).

Does the card reader show up after a cold boot by any chance? Many users have found that the card reader disappears when they use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option. This WILL cause the reader to disappear, but in most cases the reader then reappears at the next boot. The proper procedure when removing cards from a reader is to "Eject" the card.

A cold boot will once in a while bring the drives back,  but usually not.

I leave the card in when the drives vanish and then do a cold boot to bring them back.

A restart will not bring them back.

The new computers do not have the (safely remove hardware) option for the internal card readers or the printer.   At least mine does not after installing the new drivers for the CA-200 reader.

That option only shows up for the USB hard drive or if I insert a USB jump drive.

Tech support tells you to go to my computer, right click, then eject, on the drive that is lit up with the card in it, before you remove the card.  Real handy, right?

It does not solve the problem just makes a couple of extra steps to remove the card.
