Media Direct 4.0 and XP (Studio 1735)

Question

Hi Folks   MEDIA DIRECT 4.0 INCOMPATIBLE WITH XP (STUDIO 1735)?   I take it Media Direct 4.0 doesn't run on XP? Media Direct will install without complaint about the O/S version - but not run either when you:     1. If you press the media direct button, from the notebook being 'OFF' it will launch the O/S (XP)... and then not lauch Media Direct 4.0.   2. From within the O/S, if you browse to the folder created by Media Direct >> click on the Media Direct 4.0 icon -- nothing.    Unfortunately you can't install Media Direct 3.5 on the STUDIO 1735 - it doesn't recognize the MEDIA DIRECT BUTTON 'house-symbol' on the keyboard. :smileysad:   It's not a train smash - but it would have been nice if it worked - I just wish to confirm whether this is a known issue (Media Direct 4.0 not working with XP); or something about my installation that is causing an issue?    (PS: Not sure whether this is pertinent info: but I've yet to find a working XP driver for the 1735's IDT 92HD73C1 audio chipset. It might be the lack of an audio driver causing Media Direct 4.0 to not load under XP... although I feel that's a bit of a long-shot... no audio driver THEREFORE MD4.0 doesn't load... ?)   Any advice/work-arounds/info/comments gladly accepted. Update:

Well, it seems that the first portion was my mistake: MediaDirect4.0 does indeed run in XP

(c:\program files\dell\mediadirect\mdirect.exe)

- with or without a sound driver installed.

HOWEVER, with the Notebook OFF, by pressing the MEDIA DIRECT button it will boot into XP - but NOT LAUNCH MEDIA DIRECT.

Is there a way/.ini file to check the mapping of what is supposed to run when the media direct button is pressed?

I have updated my Inspiron 6400 / E1505 to media direct 4.7 (Used a 3.0 Disc to install) and it works fine XP and Vista.

Hi natakuc4   It might be purly a STUDIO-range problem, but when I tried the 3.0/3.5 route (intalling that first), the installer bombed out with an error message that the MEDIA DIRECT BUTTON (MDB3) was not detected. :smileysad:   Does anyone know how the Media Direct button is mapped onto launching an application?
