Media Player
Finally, I found a place to address my problem.
Message: Up until Friday, I have always been able to view my home video's with Media Player. I have always downloaded videos from my digital camera and saved them in a file titled "My Video's" and view them. I have also copied them to a blank cd and have been able to play them back. So last week, I copied
all of them to a cd and then deleted them from my hard drive. Then when I put in the cd and want to view the video's I get this message: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file."
Never had this message before!!! The only thing I have done recently that's different , is that I downloaded Media Player ver. 10.0 with the updates. Very confusing! I put in the cd in, as I always have, and cannot view them and get the same error message. There has to be an answer and a way to view my video's on Media Player off the cd??? These are prescious video's and I have family coming over for the Holiday's and won't be able to show them. I guess I learned I need to always keep them on the hard drive....woa! Weird thing about Windows Media Player 10. Does not include certain earlier Microsoft codecs required by some media files. Download the Media Player 9 codecs for XP from Microsoft at this link:

A link is also given for the Media Player 6.4 codecs on this same link. If you'll review all the posts in this thread, you will find other links and instructions for AVIcodec and Gspot which can be very helpful in determining codecs Media Player 10 needs to correctly play certain files. Links to sources of those codecs are given by AVIcodec.

I installed all the codecs (for WMP9 and 6.4 and XP). And it looks like it has solved the problem. I figured it it was a codec problem but all of the info given about them said the codecs were for WMP9 with no mention of 10. I never installed them cuz who knows what will happen if you cross streams like that.
Any suggestions on what codecs will get WMP10 to sync up video and audio better on all files? Or to display the correct video play time? Divx and VLC and Real player and WMP9 did it but not wmp10. Works well on some, not on others.

I found a solution for your problem as it was the same solution I hunteed for. Try downloading a different player altogether. This link will take you to a website that will allow you to download the VLC player. I downloaded this player on my system and was easily able to play files that had been sending me the COOD1199 error. The only setback with this player is that it may not run as smoothly as Windows Media Player 10. I have found that it may skip a little, but not so much so that it isn't worth the bother. Also, consider that when I say it skips, the skipping may be due to my file perhaps being somewhat corrupted.
Things I Tried That Didn't Work:
Downloading updates to Windows Media Player 10
Downloading updates for DirectX
Downloading Codec packages for all versions of Windows Media Player 10
WIshful thinking......(hehe)
So give the VLC player a try and let me know how it works for you.

I'm sorry to hear that. Perhaps the CDs got corrupted somehow (leaving them out in the open, letting others borrow them?). I realize that doesn't help your current situation, but it may help to nail down how to prepare against running into the same problem again. I wish I could provide more help.
