memory upgrade

question i currentlt have a dell demension 8200 PC400 MHZ FSB.

when upgrading memory do i need to buy memory that is DDR 400 MHZ SDRAM
or can i install a memory card that is higher example DDR466 MHZ SDRAM?
if i do install the later will it work?  and if so am i wasting money for getting 466 instead of 400
will my system run faster/better with higher MHZ memory? or is it a waste ?

Thanks

Get a matching module... so if your using PC3200 DDR (400mhz) buy PC3200 DDR (400mhz)
If you can try to match the modules timings as close as possible.

ok my next question what kind do i buy: HyperX - Dual Channel Memory Kits 1GB 400MHz DDR Non-ECC CL2  (Kit of 2 - 512MB)

or HyperX - Single Channel Memory Modules DDR 400MHz (PC3200)

Duel Channel or Single?

ok so i want to upgrade my systems mem to 1Gb so i would have buy two memory cards of 512 single channel to equal 1 GB  and not the dual channel?

Im a little Confused :(

your system cannot run the dual channel memory,  so you ll have to go with the single channle

According to the Dell manual for Dimension 8200 the memory type is RDRAM, that is Rambus memory, which unfortunely is both expensive and hard to get.  I have some experience with it since it is also used on their Power Work Station 530, which I own.  Since I seem to have a crediability gap on some of the Dell forms, I urge you to check out the documentation for yourself.  RDRAM is not interchangeable with DDR memory

ok i just opened up my System and pulled out the memory that i have in it i 4 PNY 128/4 RDR RIMM totaling a amount of 512

I want to upgrade my memory to 1 GB or more

and i would like to use one of the follwing memory Chips or any memory from Kigston seeing that i have a 45% off coupon for them and really want to use there hyperX product
I basically use my system to game online and really wouldlike to use one of the following

HyperX Unbuffered Memory = HyperX DDR 400MHz (PC3200)

#1. KHX3200AK2/1G (2 - 512MB)

#2. KHX3200ULK2/1G (2 - 512MB

can i use DDR mem or SIMM or DIMM ordo i need to use RDR RIMM?

what type of memory can i use ?

Thank you

NO!   You must use RDRAM (RIMMs) Rambus Inline Memory Modules.  If you lookup Kingston (http://www.kingston.com you will note in their memory selector that they do not  not supply memory for DelI  Dimesions 8200s, neither does Cruical (http://www.crucial.com)  From Cruical's  site. "Unfortunately, no. RDRAM (also called Rambus) is a different type of memory technology. Systems that take RDRAM cannot take SDRAM or DDR, and vice versa. For more information, read Memory: The Next Generation."

OK this will be my last question i hope :/

I found this memory SAMSUNG 1024MB (1 GIG) 800MHZ ECC 184PIN RAMBUS KIT (TWO 512MB ECC MODULES)

  • Gold Connectors
  • ECC (Error Correcting Code)
  • 184 Pins
  • 800 MHz
  • Samsung part number on both modules is MR18R162GAF0-CM8
  • On-board SPD (Serial Presence Detection allows your computer to automatically detect the memory upgrade)
  • 2.5V
  • 40ns
  • 512MB PC800 ECC RDRAM Modules x 2  for a total of 1024MB
Will this work on my sytem ?
  • was worried because I thought  my system was PC400MHz  and this says 800MHZ Is that ok ? i  have a pent 4 with 1.70 Ghz

so will it work om my dell ?
