microsoft outlook express e-mail not letting me open attachments

When I try to open an attachment in my e-mail, a error message pops up saying : "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.  Creat an association in the file options control panel."

I have gone to the control panel and looked up file association, but everything looks fine. This just started happening, before that I could open attachments fine.

thanks
Jen

.jpg are image files that most any picture viewing program can open.

What type of file is it? If it's a .JPG, can you open other .JPG's on your machine? Or do you get the same message?

One try... Open up My Computer... Go to Tools / Folder Options... Choose File Types... In that window, scroll down to .JPG  See what it opens with. If it has no program associated with it, use this screen to assign it to whatever program you want to open .JPG's. If the file is other than .JPG, choose that file type and try to assign it to the program of your choice.

I have the same problem the other person had I have a very important email that was sent to me and it has a .doc attachment with it when i try to open it I get the message "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action.  Create an association in the Folders Option Control Panel."  I followed your instruction that you gave the other person and assigned it to note pad I didn't know what else to use, but it didn't work it's all jibberish on the screen,  I would have used wordpad but I can't seem to locate it on my computer anywhere for some odd reason (recently got caught with a virus??? so who knows???)  These documents are of the essence when it comes to being on a time constraint any help you can give me will be appreciated the faster the better.

Thanks

vaw170,

*.doc files are created by Microsoft Word. If you have Word installed on your computer the association should exist, but in the event it has been corrupted find a *.doc file in Windows Explorer, right-click it and select "Open with" and on the next dialog click the "Choose program" link. Select Word from the list that appears and check the box to tell Windows to always use that program for *.doc files. If you do not have Word installed, your word processing program (WordPerfect?) should be able to open *.doc files.

You can also use the viewer for Word files which can be downloaded from here.
