microsoft recovery console

Hi, I've got a problem, I think. My xps  410 is about 4 months old  I did some registry cleaning, and some other stuff which created restore points and what not. Also I disable some start up programs. The next day when starting up  I'm asked during the boot up process which OS system do I want to start, the Media Center is highlighted and it says the highlighted one will start automatically in such and such seconds. The other option is Microsoft Recovery Console. I even selected it and I got the blue error screen saying windows has to shut down.... anyway I press the power button to power down and powered back up. Got the black screen to select Media Center Edition or Windows Recovery Console. Can anyone advised me on this issue. Thanks

Yes I can still boot to xpmce which is already highlighted. So I did what you suggested but I haven't restarted yet. Just what do you mean by backing up my files? Thanks for the quick response!:smileywink:

can you still boot to MCE? if yes. then you can disable the recovery console option. follow this instruction:
 
start>right click My Computer>properties>advance tab>settings button under start up and recovery>edit> and delete the line containing Microsoft Recovery Console.  save the text file and get out of that screens, reboot the computer and check if it's still there.
 
i suggest that you backup your files first before doing this.

backup your files just in case you accidentally delete other things that is not suppose to be deleted. you'll not be able to boot again but it will not render your computer useless. it's easy to fix though. but if your confident, go.  keep me posted, if it'll mess up your computer, I have several tricks here.

I did as you advised......restarted, booted right into my OS. Thank a bunch!!!!:smileyhappy:
