Missing System Tray Icons at Windows XP startup
This has been a topic in the past, but I am wondering if there has been any recent additional information. Most of the old posts referred to Windows SP2 updates so that was quite awhile ago.
The problem I am having is that the missing icons are intermittant and unpredictable, both for occurance and return - requiring a number of startups.
The most recent problem was that only the McAfee icon appeared and then the system would lock-up. It seems to be working again now, but I would like to prevent it in the future.

I am experiencing the same problem (only McAffee ICON and system lockup. My workaround has been a hard shutdown, removing the battery for a minute and restarting. However I'd like to find a cure.

Consider dumping McAfee. Recent Review: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2332734,00.asp The program is loaded onto many new systems because McAfee pays them. I can't think of any reason to use it.
Are you familiar with Avira Anti-vir free anti-virus (download.com)? Consider uninstalling Mcafee and choosing an effective, less bloated product for your anti-virus needs.
