motorola)mobile PhoneTools v4.0 working with Windows Vista

i too have a Moto ming a1200... I am able to acees the transflash mem card through vista as a new drive. but the internal memory ... not accessible. !! the motorola phone tools hang up in the middle.... i will try it again though

 

PhoneTools 4 is not supposed to be compatible with Vista according to the software makers. When I wanted to install it on my new 9200 running XP Media Center Edition I emailed them asking if there was a wat to get the full install package for V4 instead of installing the V2 disk and going thru a lengthy update senario. The tech emailed me back that V4.0 was not compatible with XP MCE. I replied that I have been using it on XP for quite a while now and it woked fine and XP MCE was just XP with some extra bells and whistles. He finally sent me a link after clearly stating that it was not their responsibility if it did not work. I had asked about Vista and was told it would not run on it... but then again it was not supposed to run on XP MCE either.

 

Have you tried running it in compatibility mode?

I don't know if it is officially compatible, but I have been running Motorola Phone Tools 4.3c with Vista with no problems, however, 4.3c does not recognize Outlook 2007 as a data source. There is no update available through Live Update, but I called Motorola today at 866-289-6686 and a service rep gave me a link to download Motorola Phone Tools 4.5b and I am finally able to sync with Outlook 2007. Hope this helps.

Compatibility mode is a function that allows you to run a program as if it were running in an older OS. I memory serves you need to go to the exe in questiona and access it's properties. Apparently though someone is using 4.3C in Vista.

 

mtpugh, Did Motorola say that this 4.5b was more Vista compatible or just solves the problem with Outlook 2007? I was dealing with Avanquest who makes the program (thru email) and they were absolutely no help at all. Is that phone number for US only or can I call it from Canada? At Avanquest they sent me a link to download 4.36c but they told me that it wasn't written to work in XP Media Center so if it doesn't work... oh well.

I didn't ask about Vista compatibility, since 4.3c was already working for me in Vista. As for Avanquest (or BVRP), I think Motorola actually makes the software and Avanquest distributes it. I have been trying to get an answer out of Avanquest since January, and I finally called Motorola today as a last resort. It's a bit tricky navigating Motorola's phone system, but so far, 4.5b works like a charm!

Thanks for the info, I'll definitely give them a call. I have been eyeing the Vista upgrade disk but still haven't received an answer on some of the third party stuff I need to run on Vista. I can cross MPT off the list now and hopefully I can get the latest version as well from Motorola Canada.

I have found that most of the programs that don't claim to be Vista compatible run just fine. I have found that Vista is a good upgrade as long as you have the hardware for it, and a little bit of patience. I'm sure it will be even better when the drivers and third-party software catch up.

What version of MPT are you using? I just got 4.50b from Motorola (not BVRP) today (see my previous posts). It is not available to download with live update yet.

 

I am not sure what problems you are having with Bluetooth. I was able to connect with Bluetooth even with the old 4.3c version. I am using the Microsoft Bluetooth stack not Dell's.
